Dear Members,

Yesterday, we were in the process of upgrading our servers that store our professional photos. During the upgrade an issue was found, which made it unable to publish the new daily photos today.

Our team is working to fix this, and we’ll be updating the blog as we know more.

As for the daily photos for July 29, they will be available in the previous daily photos archive tomorrow.

From celebratory fireworks, flying animals, insects and machines, to ferris wheels and buildings shooting toward the clouds and wondrous weather phenomenon, this challenge offers plenty of subjects to shoot. When you look toward the clouds, the sun, the stars what do you see? Share your best shots and you may be featured!

OFFICIAL ENTRY RULES
To officially enter the Creative Challenge, you must tag your three submissions with creative-challenge-sky. You can then view them and everyone else’s submissions on the DISPLAY PAGE (it updates about every hour). To find out more about this, read the Using Tags on Creative Challenges post.

Submission Guidelines
1. Our editors look for sharp, clear horizontal images that are at a minimum resolution of 800×600 (submissions can have larger resolutions than this). Currently, vertical images cannot fit in the homepage template. Therefore, we cannot publish vertical or narrow panoramic images.

2. Images with added text or images, including watermarks, logos, copyright symbols, graphic borders, frames and time stamps, will not be considered for first place or being featured on the homepage at a later date. Collages, however, are acceptable. Images submitted should be your own.

3. Please do not submit pictures that have already been featured on the homepage.

4. The Creative Challenge runs from 12:01 a.m. on July 21 to 12:00 p.m. on August 2 (all times EST).

5. 3 pictures per person (regardless of how many member accounts you have) tagged exactly (including hyphens) with: creative-challenge-sky

*Note:Images that don’t meet the exact guidelines can be submitted and viewed for everyone to enjoy, but please understand that we cannot publish images that don’t meet minimum guidelines on the homepage. Also, now that you’re tagging your entries, you don’t need to post links in the comments section anymore.

NEXT CHALLENGE THEME: Cool Down
It’s been a long hot summer for those of us in the US! Cool down with the next challenge and submit your chilled out photos. From snow and ice to your favorite summertime treat, this challenge should remind us that the hottest month of the year will soon be over and we’ll be faced with the chill of winter soon…

Update: We have found the issue! A server was “stuck,” and when it was rebooted, it started processing videos again. All videos uploaded within the last few days should be online by morning!

When you upload a video to Webshots, we convert the format so that it can be viewed on the website. Currently, that conversion process is not working, so you get the error message that the video has “No preview yet.”

Our team is working to correct the conversion issue, but we recommend that you not upload videos until we’ve reached a resolution.

Every weekend on the Webshots blog, we have virtual photo walks, where members go for a walk wherever they are, take pictures, and then share them with everyone.

Did you know that you can rate our professional photos from 1 to 5 stars? When you go to any photo page, such as this one of Shenandoah Colors, Virginia, you’ll see the stars right under the photographer’s name. Also listed is the photo’s average rating, so you can see how the Webshots community has rated it.

When you rate a photo, your vote will be averaged with all other votes from the community. Then, when you go to a category page, such as the one for Forests, you can sort all the photos by Highest Rated and then download them right from that page.
