Wink! Episode One

Smack dab in the middle of February lays the dreaded St. Valentine’s Day, when boys and girls alike are panic stricken about what to do for their sweethearts. This year, the answer is easy: create a video and submit it to Project Spotlight. There’s no better way to say I love you than to have your romantic gesture broadcast to the entire world!

Have fun making videos for those you love! Check out the details in our Call to Action and be sure to tag your videos “winklove.” You can even make Project Spotlight a bookmarked member so you’ll always know when there’s a new episode! Bookmark now!

I really loved going through all the entries in last week’s Creative Challenge, where I asked you to post your favorite black-and-white photos. Not only did I enjoy all the captivating images, but I was also enthralled by the stories you told about your photos and what they mean to you. It’s days like this that I love working at Webshots!

I’m happy to say that we’re putting together a black-and-white photo editor’s collection that will include photos from this Creative Challenge in it! I’ll announce when the collection is live in the blog, so look forward to that soon!

Black-and-white photography is all about the use of light. Without color, the focus of the image becomes its lingering shadows, rich textures and complex patterns made by the amount or position of the light.

In this week’s Creative Challenge, we want to see your favorite black-and-white photos, so just post a link to them in the comments section.

We may use some of the images you find in an upcoming editor’s collection on Black and White Photography, so if you want to take your own photos for the challenge, check out professional photographer Keith Cooper’s detailed examples for taking black-and-white pictures with your digital camera as well as the article on ephotozine.com about techniques.

Plus, if you have any of your own tips, be sure to share them with the Webshots community in the comments section.

In our If Dogs Could Talk… Creative Challenge, we posted the above photo and asked you to write a caption as if the dog were speaking. You came up with some hilarious comments, but our favorite came from member akhjerpe, who wrote, “Is it just me, or is this thing itchy?!”

The Consumer Electronics Show is over, and the votes are in—over 8,000 of them! CNET covered the event and gave gadget gurus and techie lovers a chance to voice their opinions about the best products—and possibly win a 50″ plasma HDTV.

The People’s Voice award went to the Ford and Microsoft Sync, a service that offers a “fully integrated, flash memory–based system that enables drivers to call hands-free and to control a range of digital audio via voice commands and buttons mounted on the steering wheel.” To drool over this new technology, go to the CNET review.

Just type in the word “hug” or “hugging” in the search box and then use the menus to the left to refine your search to pictures, albums or videos and the menus on the right for a specific channel.

We have to say, you’re a creative bunch! It was so difficult for us to choose the winning profile pic because each one is so unique. We loved all the entries and the stories behind them, but we have to say that member dawson30’s “I blinked” profile—a little pun on our Webshots logo—made us laugh.
