Last weekend I caught the brief break in damp cold weather to get in a mostly sunny walk up to a couple of mountain lakes before they get completely snowed in.
I stopped to chat with the animals a bit.

I was above the patches of morning fog wreathed through the mountain valleys.
http://outdoors.webshots.com/photo/2032095050099892539vezYwS?vhost=outdoors
I did find a confused bug that was trying to figure out why a blossom tasted more like a snowcone.

Both lakes are not spectacular as alpine lakes go, but they do have their moments.

And the waterfalls and creeks are starting to fill up again and look all the prettier with the Fall rains.

Just some trace of snow in the Cascades of Washington, but that will change to a thicker blanket very soon. I hope you enjoyed the walk!

Hello!

We originally were going to climb a mountain but poor weather prevented us for doing so. So we adlibbed and opted for an 8 mile hike on a section of the classic North Umpqua Trail. Lots of fall colors and, always, the river.

I have been away from the walks for a couple weeks, but I am back again. This week I took a walk around the Coosawattee River resort where I live. It is a private gated community of over 8,000 acres. Unless you are a resident or a guest, you will not be able to see it in person. The fall color had already peaked and was washed away with heavy rains and winds in just a couple days. The sun had come out for a change and it was a beautiful morning for a walk to enjoy what color was left along the Coosawattee River.

Hi,
I have two hikes to share. First one is in Sequoia National Park. Here I walked from my camp at Lodgepole to Giant Grove, home of the largest tree in the world, The General Sherman. Plus a short Tokopah Waterfall hike.
Second one is in New Mexico: Here I walked around Old Albuquerque and on top of Sandia Peak via the longest passenger tramway with my parents.

I will have more to come of these two places; just do not have the time to get all done at once.
Dan.

I did my weekend-walking early this week, hiking down to the Missouri River from Fort Osage. During their westward exploration, Lewis and Clark camped out along the bluffs at this point on the river. William Clark wrote the following:

“The wind was against us this morning…were obliged to lie-to during the day at a small island. Directly opposite, on the south, is a high commanding position, more than 70 feet above the high water mark, and overlooking the river. This spot has many advantages for a fort and trading house with the Indians.”

-William Clark, June 23, 1804

In 1808-1809 Fort Osage was constructed on the site.

I got a few shots of the exterior of the buildings but didn’t go inside as I was more interested in getting down to the river to grab a few shots there.

Recently we went to Epcot in Orlando. In the front part I was taking photos of a variety of things at many angles. This includes a wayward goose from Animal Kingdom. By the time we got to the back, the countries, it was crowded! Not wanting to take people photos you will see several shots taken of the rooftops. The different styles through out the park are fascinating. I hope you enjoy this long, very hot, walk…Marie

Just an FYI if you haven’t already noticed - we’re experiencing an issue with downloads on the Community side. Our developers are working to fix it and should be repaired in the next few hours.

Had a few hours to burn in St. Louis, MO yesterday, so here are a few memories of there. Didn’t have time to venture too far away from downtown, so not a lot of variation in “scenery.” Yet, was great to get some fresh air with a very beautiful autumn day in the Midwest.

While they are fixing the download issue, they need to remove the horrible red background. I just saw the slideshow of my weekend walk album and it is awful with the red background. Please, Webshots…..please don’t make us suffer until the end of the year with the horrible red and green.

We visited the Norfolk Virginia Botanic Gardens. Though many plants were declining, there were still many fall flowers in bloom and the fall roses were spectacular.

Hi fellow walkers-

Ever heard of the sinking of the freighter the Edmund Fitzgerald? It sank in Lake Superior during a sudden storm in the 1970’s. I wanted to share a photo of the lighthouse that is near the spot where the boat went down. There is a museum there with holds pieces of the freighter.

Lake Superior is amazing. it is the largest body of fresh water in the world. it is 160 miles wide and 300 miles long and 3000 feet deep. The locals catch a fish simply called White fish which is so good!!

here is a photo of that lighthouse. Enjoy.

My family and I went hiking Florida style on Sunday to the Jay B. Starkey Wilderness Park in New Port Richey, FL. We had two trees fall down not far from us but we had a great time walking the trails.

Enjoy! :)
